What does hybrid vigor mean?

Hybrid vigor, also known as heterosis or outbreeding enhancement, is the phenomenon that a hybrid offspring has improved traits, such as growth rate, biomass, stress tolerance, and fertility. Hybrid dogs are healthier and have better longevity than purebreds. Why is this? Because each Purebred dog carries a series of traits, good and bad, the more the Purebreds are crossed together those traits gets stronger. Generally each Purebred dog carries their own “faults” so Poodles carry different faults than Aussies and each parent needs to carry a copy of that genetic trait to pass it on to the puppies, so only one parent carries that trait and the other does not, that trait will not be passed on. So by crossing the two different Purebreds, you will not pass on the Breeds’ faults, which creates a much healthier dog.

RATING “A” and “B” are good, you never want to breed a “C” rated dog because that means the dog is “affected” by the fault and can pass it on to the puppies.

“A” means all clear of the fault

“B” means they carry the gene for the fault however they don’t have it and can be bred to “A” and have clear puppies

“C” means they have the fault and can pass it on.
