Why is litterbox training for puppies a thing? I get funny looks when I mention that the puppy is fully litterbox potty trained and understandable, it sounds weird and unusual, but it’s not what you think. Puppies go potty often, they don’t have fully developed bladder muscles to control holding their potty, and when one puppy goes potty, it’s a chain effect, so the litterbox is extremely convenient to teach puppies to go potty in a designated area, this also helps with future potting training outside.
Below are the items we use to teach our puppies and Mama dogs to potty while in the nursery. The Rabbit tray we pick up at Tractor Supply or any pet store near you, we sometimes use both Pine shavings for the absorbent and then Alfalfa Pellets on top to weigh down the pine shavings so they don’t get spread all over, why Alfalfa pellets and not other pellets, because Alfalfa pellets are safe, puppies put everything in their mouth and all other pellets are not safe. If you want to make it simple, then you can just use the Rabbit tray and Pine shavings, since the cost increase with Animal feed, we’ve resorted to just the Pine shavings and that works great, it’s just requires a little more sweeping.
